Career options after 12th commerce without maths depend on a few tests and dates this year, not on a long list of courses. Only a few doors ask for a maths subject, and most others open through Accountancy, CUET or a registration you can plan. Get the order right now and you protect what a high-income skill portfolio needs most: a clean year.
The short version
- Answer: Delhi University's 2026-27 Bulletin keeps B.Com (Hons) open through Accountancy and sets no minimum Class 12 marks, but BMS, BBA (FIA) and Business Economics need Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, and you can only sit CUET subjects you studied. Law, CA, CMA, CS and hotel management take any stream.
- Decision filter: pick tests that form a valid combination and do not collide in May 2027, when CUET, IPMAT and a CA Foundation sitting are all expected.
- Next step: write your subject list, match it to the combination table below, and mark the first deadline. A clear plan plus one finished piece of proof is how a skill portfolio turns into higher income opportunities and earlier financial freedom.
Most guides list courses. The harder part is the order: which test first, which subject set to register, and which deadline already closed. Every date below belongs to the admission cycle running right now, and each is marked as official, reported or still expected.

Where you stand on 5 October 2026
Students and parents ask the same questions. Can I do B.Com (Hons) in Delhi University without maths? Which CUET subjects do I choose? I passed this year and got no seat, so what now?
The answer depends on which of these four people you are.
You are in the 2027 admission cycle, and every deadline below is yours. Your subject list is already fixed, so the only choices left are which tests to register for and in what order.
Delhi University closed its 2026-27 rounds with a spot round on 23 August 2026. The next real chance is a fresh CUET attempt in 2027, and the months in between need a plan that is not waiting.
The admission cycle is over for you. The open question is how to use the first year of the degree, and the skill-stack section below is written for that.
You hold a subject that Delhi University writes as "Mathematics/Applied Mathematics". That keeps BMS, BBA (FIA) and Business Economics possible, which a no-maths student cannot use.
A trap with dates
- Many guides mix 2026-27 dates with 2027-28 dates. The 2026 CUET exams ran from 11 to 31 May 2026, and the result came on 23 June 2026. Those dates do not apply to you if you finish Class 12 in 2027.
- Some popular course pages list salary ranges with no source, and one still lists DU JAT as a B.Com route, although DU's 2026-27 admission runs on CUET scores. An "updated" stamp on a coaching page is not proof that a rule is current.
The subject-lock rule that decides your options
This is the line most guides miss. Delhi University's 2026-27 Bulletin of Information says it is mandatory for the candidate to appear in CUET in those subjects in which they are appearing or have passed Class 12.
In plain words, your CUET subjects are locked to your Class 12 subjects. A commerce student without maths cannot choose the Maths paper to open a maths line, even with strong practice.
The Bulletin asks for Class 12 or its equivalent from a single recognised board, so CBSE, ICSE and state-board Intermediate students all start from the same rule.
What this changes: the question is not "can I prepare maths in time". It is "which lines can I reach with the subjects I hold". Applied Mathematics counts in the same line as Mathematics, because DU writes it as "Mathematics/Applied Mathematics".
Source: University of Delhi Bulletin of Information, UG 2026-27 and the DU UG admissions FAQs of 17 May 2026. Programme lines can change each year, so read the 2027-28 Bulletin when it is published.
Which DU door each subject set opens
This table is taken from the Bulletin's programme-specific eligibility lines. It shows which commerce programmes stay open if you hold Accountancy, and which close.
| Programme | CUET subject combination in the Bulletin | Without a maths subject |
|---|---|---|
| B.Com (Hons) | Combination I: language + Mathematics/Applied Mathematics + two subjects from List B. Combination II: language + Accountancy/Book Keeping + two subjects from List B. | Open through Combination II |
| B.Com (General) | Combination I: language + any three subjects from List B. Combination II: language + one subject from List B + the General Aptitude Test. | Open through both lines |
| BMS, BBA (FIA) and BA (Hons) Business Economics | Language + Mathematics/Applied Mathematics + one subject from List B + the General Aptitude Test. | Closed without a maths subject |
The General Aptitude Test is a CUET section that DU describes as covering general knowledge, current affairs, mental ability, numerical ability, quantitative reasoning (basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration and statistics) and logical reasoning. It is school-level, but it is not nothing.
Honest take
BMS looks like a small door even for students with maths. In the part of the seat matrix we could read, it appears at four colleges: Aryabhatta (104 seats across categories), College of Vocational Studies (60), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (60) and Keshav Mahavidyalaya (59).
That is 283 seats, against 3,651 B.Com (Hons) seats in 27 colleges. If you hold no maths, the door that closed is a narrow one.
One five-test set for three DU lines
Here is a short piece of arithmetic that no ranking page shows. Take a language, Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and the General Aptitude Test. That is five tests.
- B.Com (Hons), Combination II: language + Accountancy + two List B subjects (Business Studies and Economics). Valid.
- B.Com (General), Combination I: language + any three List B subjects (Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics). Valid.
- B.Com (General), Combination II: language + one List B subject + General Aptitude Test. Valid.
One set of five tests reaches three DU lines, and merit is based on the best score from any valid combination. Whether the General Aptitude Test counts inside a five-test cap depends on NTA's 2027 bulletin. CUET 2026 allowed up to five subjects, so check the 2027 notice before you register.
How DU's commerce seats actually filled in 2026-27
Cutoff lists tell you who got in first. They do not tell you how many seats were left afterwards. Delhi University publishes both a seat matrix and round-by-round vacant-seat lists, so we put them side by side for B.Com (Hons).
The working: add UR, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and EWS seats for each college in the matrix to get 3,651. Add the spot-round vacancies for the same colleges to get 136, and 136 divided by 3,651 is 3.7%. For general-category seats, 34 of 1,564 is 2.2%, which means 97.8% were filled.
Twelve of the 27 colleges did not appear in the spot-round vacancy list at all, which we read as no vacancy. Seventeen of the 27 had under 2% of seats left. The vacancies sit mainly in women's colleges and in reserved-category seats.
| College | B.Com (Hons) seats | Vacant on 23 Aug 2026 | Share vacant |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aditi Mahavidyalaya (W) | 68 | 20 | 29.4% |
| Jesus & Mary College (W) | 50 | 10 | 20.0% |
| Kalindi College (W) | 58 | 8 | 13.8% |
| Bharati College (W) | 151 | 18 | 11.9% |
| Maharaja Agrasen College | 193 | 21 | 10.9% |
| Janki Devi Memorial College (W) | 172 | 17 | 9.9% |
| Keshav Mahavidyalaya | 192 | 18 | 9.4% |
| Acharya Narendra Dev College | 125 | 8 | 6.4% |
| Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College | 174 | 2 | 1.1% |
| Hansraj College | 260 | none listed | 0% |
| Dyal Singh College | 231 | none listed | 0% |
| College of Vocational Studies | 340 | none listed | 0% |
The movement between rounds: in the third-round list we read, eight colleges showed 84 vacant B.Com (Hons) seats on 3 August. By the spot round on 23 August, the same eight showed 36, so 57% of those seats were filled in the last phase. Seats move late, and students who stayed flexible on college name got them.
The cutoff gap is real at the top. Collegedunia's round-one general-category list for B.Com (Hons) shows Shri Ram College of Commerce at 924.30 and Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College at 854.48, a gap of about 70 points on its scale, and its round two for SRCC barely moved, at 923.83. These are secondary figures, so read them as a relative gap and check the official cutoff on the DU portal.
Honest take
CUET UG 2026 had 15,68,867 registrations. Divide that by the roughly 71,624 DU undergraduate seats reported for last year and you get about 22 registrations per seat.
That figure covers all programmes and counts students who also apply elsewhere, so it is a scale check, not a probability. The fair reading: the top few colleges are a lottery for most, and the middle of the list is where most seats are won.
Sources: DU UG seat matrix 2026-27, third-round vacant seats (3 August 2026) and spot-round vacant seats (23 August 2026). We could read the first 27 colleges alphabetically (to Mata Sundri), so Shri Ram College of Commerce and later colleges are not in these totals. Seat rows were read from the PDFs and may differ slightly from the live portal, so check the college row you care about. The 71,624 seat total and the cutoffs are from Collegedunia, a secondary source.
How to read any university's CUET line in three steps
Delhi University is one of 244 universities that used CUET scores in 2026. The same three steps work for any of them.
- Find the programme-specific line. Open the university's own admission notice and search for your programme. Skip coaching summaries, since they copy last year's rules.
- Check each subject against your marksheet. If a line asks for Mathematics and you did not study it, that line is closed for you, even if the rest of the combination fits.
- Check for extra sections. A General Aptitude Test or a university test adds a quant section you can practise, so note it in your plan.
The calendar: October to July
This is the sequence for a student finishing Class 12 in 2027, or taking another attempt. Dates marked tentative are what exam sites expect from past patterns, not what an official body has announced.
| When | What happens | Status | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 October 2026 | CMA Foundation (December sitting): registration deadline, with a late-fee window to 17 October | Reported | Careers360 date page. Confirm on icmai.in. |

| Late June 2027 | CUET UG 2027 result expected | Tentative | The 2026 result came on 23 June 2026. |
| July to August 2027 | Delhi University seat matrix and seat-allocation rounds | Pattern | 2026 pattern: seat matrix 3 July, third round 3 August, spot round 23 August. |
Check each date on the official site before you act: NTA CUET, ICAI, ICSI, ICMAI and the Consortium of NLUs. Most of these dates reached us through exam-guide websites, which is why they carry a status label.
Which test for which path
A path is only real if you can name the test that gets you in. The rows run from the largest pool of seats to the narrowest routes, so the first rows reach the most students. Each shows its test, its maths condition, and the one thing to do in this cycle.
| Path | Test or route | Maths condition | What to do this cycle |
|---|---|---|---|
| DU B.Com (Hons) and B.Com | CUET UG, then DU's seat-allocation portal | No. Accountancy replaces it for B.Com (Hons). | Fix your CUET subject set before registration opens. |
| DU BMS, BBA (FIA), Business Economics | CUET UG with Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, plus the General Aptitude Test | Yes, and you must have studied it in Class 12. | If you did not, drop these from the plan today. |
| Other central and state universities | CUET UG scores, as accepted by each university | Depends on each university. | Read each university's own programme line. 244 universities used CUET in 2026. |
| Integrated management (IPM) | IPMAT at IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak. IIM Amritsar and IIM Shillong set their own gates. | Indore: no subject condition. Amritsar and Shillong: Mathematics required. | Decide in the first quarter of 2027 whether to prepare for IPMAT's two quant sections. |
| Private BBA | University or group tests such as NPAT, or marks-based admission | Check each brochure. | Compare total fee with a B.Com plus skill route before paying. |
| Law (BA LLB, BBA LLB) | CLAT 2027 on 6 December 2026, and other law tests | No. Any stream. | Registration closes on 31 October, so this is the first deadline. |
| Hotel management (BSc HHA) | NCHM JEE, expected April 2027 | No. English is the required subject. | Watch for the form in December. |
| CA, CMA and CS | CA Foundation, CMA Foundation and CSEET | CA and CS: no stream condition. CMA: confirm Class 12 rules on icmai.in. | Timing matters more than eligibility. See the next section. |
| Design (B.Des) | UCEED, NID DAT and others | No stream condition for the common routes. | Dates fall in December and January, so decide early if this interests you. |
IIM Indore's IPM 2026-31 document lists no subject condition, while IIM Amritsar and IIM Shillong set maths conditions. CLAT does not restrict stream. NCHM JEE needs Class 12 with English. Dates and fees for NCHM JEE and NPAT are tentative and come from exam-guide sites.
CA, CS and CMA: timing, not eligibility
Eligibility for these three is the easy part, and the sibling guide covers it. In this cycle the real question is timing, because each has its own sitting calendar and registration rule.
- CA Foundation: you must register at least four months before the exam. The January 2027 window closed on 1 September 2026. For the May 2027 sitting, the reported last date is 1 January 2027.
- CMA Foundation: the December 2026 exam is reported for 13 December, with a registration deadline of 10 October and a late-fee window to 17 October. That is five days after 5 October 2026.
- CSEET (CS entry): ICSI's February 2027 session has conflicting registration dates in public sources, so confirm on icsi.edu before you rely on either.
Multi-stage competition: these are entry gates, not finish lines. Each is followed by harder stages and, for CA, articleship.
Reported CA Foundation pass rates in the last three sittings were about 14.8%, 19.2% and 20.1%. The sittings do not report results by maths background, so the numbers say nothing about no-maths students.
The collision to watch is May 2027. CUET is expected from the second week of May, IPMAT in early May, and a CA Foundation sitting runs that month.
You cannot give all three your best. If CUET and a DU seat are your base, treat CA Foundation as a later sitting rather than May, since ICAI has recently held Foundation in September, January and May.
If you are weighing the credentials against each other, CA vs CMA vs CFA compares them, and careers after BCom other than CA and MBA maps the alternatives.
Three plans for this cycle
Pick the plan that matches where you actually stand, not the one that sounds best.
- Choose a five-test CUET set that covers three DU lines at once (see the five-test set above).
- Mark the first dates: CLAT on 31 October if law interests you, CMA on 10 October if you want an early start.
- Decide by December whether the May 2027 CA Foundation sitting is realistic next to boards and CUET.
- Keep one skill project running that is not an exam.
- Treat 2027 CUET as a fresh attempt, with the same subject-lock rule.
- Start one professional route now. CMA Foundation in December or CSEET in February can each start with Class 12 passed.
- Add a paid or project-based skill so the gap year has proof, not just attempts.
- Set a checkpoint date after the CUET result for what happens next.
- Pick one core skill and one multiplier for the first year.
- Use the vacation after year one for the first piece of paid or proof-bearing work.
- Keep CA, CS or CMA as a parallel option, since each can run alongside a B.Com.
- Read the sibling guide on commerce careers without maths for the rule-by-rule map.
Gap year or settle: the arithmetic
A gap year feels like one year. In time-to-income terms it is bigger. A three-year B.Com plus one gap year means four years before degree-based pay, which is 33% longer.
That cost can be worth it, and sometimes it is not. A useful test has three parts:
- A specific target. Name the college and course, and look up its last two cutoff lists. "A better college" is not a target.
- A realistic gain. Compare your own best CUET combination score with the target's cutoff. If the gap is the kind a year of focused practice can close, a retake can pay. If it is a gap like the one between a top college and the middle of the list, a year may not move you far.
- A parallel track. The year should also produce a registration, a skill or a project. A year of only waiting is the expensive version.
Honest take
The seat data says mid-ranked B.Com (Hons) seats do fill, and many go late. If your gap is small, joining a good-fit college and building proof from year one usually beats a drop. Reserve the gap year for a clear target and a clear plan.
Cycle myths checked against the bulletin
These claims show up in ranking guides. Each is checked against Delhi University's own documents or the exam bodies.
| Claim you may hear | What the documents say |
|---|---|
| "Delhi University asks for 55 to 60 per cent in Class 12 for B.Com (Hons)" | DU's 2026-27 Bulletin sets no minimum marks for B.Com (Hons). Merit comes from CUET scores, and the FAQ says Class 12 marks are used only to break ties. |
| "You can pick the Maths paper in CUET even if you did not study it" | The Bulletin says it is mandatory to appear in CUET in those subjects in which you are appearing or have passed Class 12. A commerce student without maths cannot use Combination I. |
| "DU takes a separate entrance like DU JAT for commerce" | DU admits through CUET scores and its seat-allocation system. A popular course page still lists DU JAT as a B.Com route, which is out of date. |
| "CA and CMA are maths-only courses" | ICAI takes registrations from any stream after Class 10. CMA Foundation includes a business-maths paper that you learn inside the course. A ranking page that lists CA and CMA under "with maths" is wrong about CA and misleading about CMA. |
| "The first cutoff list is the price of admission" | In the 27 colleges we could read, general-category B.Com (Hons) seats were 97.8 per cent filled by the spot round. Cutoffs show who got in first, not who can still get a good seat. |
| "One bad CUET day means a lost year" | You need a plan with a fallback ready before the exam, not after. Several professional routes and law tests run on their own dates. |
The skill stack on top of the seat
A seat opens a degree. A skill portfolio opens higher income opportunities. The risk in this cycle is spending all your energy on the entrance and arriving at college with nothing visible.
One core skill, one multiplier, one proof piece. A workable stack is accounting and GST work as the core, spreadsheet automation as the multiplier, and a clean set of books for a real small shop as the proof.
That stack can grow into your own small practice, where retainer clients and a hired assistant let income scale beyond your own hours. Another is sales or digital marketing as the core, reading a dashboard as the multiplier, and a live campaign report as the proof. Either lifts what you can earn faster than a marks percentage does.
Communication is the part that gets skipped. Clear English, a short written summary of your work and a calm two-minute pitch matter in every one of these paths. Regional-language students can think in their own language and present in English, and that is a skill you can train, not a trait you are born with.
Go deeper with the best skills for commerce students to learn and digital marketing for commerce students.
AI and these careers
In an exam year, AI is most useful as a study assistant. Ask it to turn a past paper into an error log, to explain a wrong answer, or to draft a polite email to a college office.
Never use it as your source for a deadline or an eligibility line. Chatbots repeat stale dates with confidence, so ask for the official notice, then read the notice yourself.
In the careers themselves, routine entries, first drafts and report formatting are the parts AI makes cheap. Responsibility for a wrong filing, a client's trust and the call on which lead to chase stay human.
Start with checking AI output against source documents and protecting client data. Next, automate one repeat task in your own field and record the before-and-after. Later, as tools improve, move toward the review layer that clients pay for. No multiplier is guaranteed, but domain knowledge plus checked AI output beats either alone.
Money and the college budget
Money in an admission year leaks in three places: test fees, coaching and the college itself. Test fees are the small part. NCHM JEE lists ₹1,000 for the general category and CA Foundation registration is reported at ₹9,000, both from secondary sources.
Coaching for three entrances at once is where budgets quietly drain. Pick the one or two tests that match your plan and study for those.
For the college fee, use a strict planning benchmark: about a tenth of the whole education budget. On a ₹10 lakh budget that is roughly ₹1 lakh, and the other ₹9 lakh stays for living security, tools, internet and later upskilling. Past about a fifth, ask for course-specific proof before you commit.
Do not borrow for a credential that a cheaper seat also gives you. A degree has a place, but it does not replace a skill portfolio.
For skills, try YouTube and official documents first, then judge any paid course by who teaches it, when it was last updated and what you will build. CA, law and other regulated routes still need their formal route.
Use The 4-Checkpoint Protocol before you commit
The 4-Checkpoint Protocol reduces false certainty. Run each serious option through the same four checks.
Check how you work, not what sounds impressive. Some people thrive on long exam cycles and number work. Others do better in people-facing roles with shorter feedback loops.
Board exams, family budget and the years your family can wait for income set how many tests you can carry. One exam done well beats three done badly.
Look for the paid problem at the end of the path. Accounting practice, GST filing, sales and marketing pay for results, whatever entrance test got you in.
Ask which tasks AI makes cheap and which human layer stays. Routine entry work shrinks. Judgement, trust and clear explanation hold their value.
Pass The 3 Gates before a long bet
The 4-Checkpoint Protocol helps you compare. The 3 Gates test the path against reality, and they fit inside an exam year if you keep each piece small.
Use The 3 Gates before you lock your time, money and identity into one narrow plan.
Finish one piece before CUET results arrive: books for a small shop, a simple spreadsheet model, or a short report on a real business.
Present that piece in a thirty-second to two-minute pitch to a person outside the field, as a voice note or short video.
Ask three people who work in the field, or three paying clients, whether it is useful, and write down their exact words.
Expensive mistakes this cycle
DU's own rule ties each CUET subject to what you have studied or are appearing in. Choosing Maths "for the score" does not open Combination I.
A high score in a subject that matches no combination helps no one. Choose subjects that form a combination, then prepare them.
The registration date is set months before the exam. Register late and you lose a whole sitting without any warning.
May 2027 is expected to carry CUET, IPMAT and a CA Foundation sitting. Pick the ones that match your plan and drop the rest.
Colleges with the highest cutoffs fill first, but 17 of the 27 colleges we read had under 2 per cent of B.Com (Hons) seats left by the spot round. Mid-ranked seats move.
A B.Com at a good college plus a visible skill stack often costs far less and keeps CA, CS and CMA open.
Sites copy each other, and ICSI's own post and a coaching site gave different CSEET dates when we checked. Confirm every deadline on the exam body's own notice.
A short first test you can run alone
More opinions will not settle this. One small test will, and it works for all three plans.
- Write down your subject list. Language, Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, and whether Mathematics or Applied Mathematics is there.
- Match it to the combination table. Circle every DU line you can use. Cross out every line that needs a subject you do not hold.
- Sit one timed sample paper for the weakest subject. Use the public sample material. Note which topics cost marks, not just the total.
- Build one small piece of proof. A set of books, a one-page market note or a mini campaign, finished and shown to two people.
- Ask one direct question. Would you pay for this, or hire for this? Write down the answers.
- Decide, then review. Review after a stretch of steady work. Some people need a few weeks and others a couple of months, and both are normal.
What parents can check before spending
A missing maths subject, or a missed seat, can trigger panic. A fact-check works better.
- Ask for the exact line in the bulletin. For Delhi University, that is the programme-specific eligibility paragraph in the Bulletin of Information. A coaching page is not a substitute.
- Ask which admission year the date belongs to. A date for the 2026-27 cycle does not apply to the child who finishes Class 12 in 2027. Check that every deadline is labelled for 2027-28.
- Ask whether it is a subject gate or a test section. A Class 12 subject on the marksheet cannot be fixed. A timed section in a test can be practised.
- Add up the whole year's cost. Count test fees, coaching, travel to exam centres and the college fee together, and compare the total with the family's education budget before saying yes to anything.
- Keep one parallel route alive. A skill or a professional registration that continues even if one test goes badly protects the year.
What to do next
Write your Class 12 subject list, and circle every DU line it can reach.
Mark the first deadline that applies to you from the calendar, and confirm it on the official site.
Before you pay for coaching or a seat, run The 4-Checkpoint Protocol and pass The 3 Gates. For a plan built around your own marks, budget and family situation, continuous guidance helps you pick the skill mix and proof that fits you.
Check which degrees and exams really close, and how much of each exam is quantitative.
Compare professional exams, corporate degrees and skill-first paths side by side.
See durations and course types before you shortlist colleges.
Decide which credential fits your work style before you register for a Foundation sitting.
